X-ray of TMJ Mandible (1 projection)
Jaw x-rays, also known as mandibular x-rays, are medical images used to evaluate the jaw and related oral structures. These x-rays are useful in medicine for several reasons:
Diagnosis of fractures and injuries: Jaw x-rays are commonly used to detect fractures or injuries to the jaw due to accidents, trauma, or sports injuries. This helps doctors determine the severity of the injury and plan appropriate treatment.
Evaluation of dental problems: These x-rays are also used in dentistry to evaluate dental health and look for problems such as cavities, tooth infections, abscesses or cysts that can affect the jaw and overall oral health.
Planning dental procedures: Before performing major dental procedures, such as wisdom tooth extractions or dental implant placement, jaw x-rays can provide essential information about the bone structure and position of the teeth.
Diagnosis of jaw disorders: Mandibular x-rays are also used to evaluate temporomandibular disorders (TMD), which affect the temporomandibular joint and can cause facial pain and chewing problems. These images help doctors diagnose and treat these disorders.
In summary, jaw x-rays are an important tool in medicine and dentistry for evaluating and diagnosing a variety of conditions related to the jaw and oral health, from injuries and fractures to dental problems and jaw disorders.
