Magnetic Resonance Wrist
Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) 1.5 Tesla Aera Siemens on the Wrist
1. What is a Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI)? Magnetic Resonance is a diagnostic imaging technique that uses a magnetic field and radio waves to obtain detailed images of the inside of the body, without the need for ionizing radiation as in X-rays.
2. What does 1.5 Teslas mean? 1.5 Teslas refers to the strength of the magnetic field used in the equipment. A Tesla is a unit that measures the strength of the magnetic field. MRI machines in hospitals and clinics generally range between 1.5 and 3 Teslas. A magnetic field of 1.5 Tesla ensures high quality and definition images.
3. Siemens Aera Siemens is a leading medical technology firm. Its "Aera" model is one of the most prominent 1.5 Tesla MRIs, valued for its efficiency, design focused on patient comfort and superior image quality.
4. Use on the Wrist The wrist is a complex structure made up of several small bones, ligaments, tendons and nerves. MRI is vital to accurately visualize these structures:
Ligament and Tendon Injuries: MRI can detect tears, inflammation, or any other abnormalities in the ligaments and tendons of the wrist.
Fractures: Although x-rays are common for initial diagnosis, MRI may show non-obvious fractures or details of associated injuries.
Ganglionic Cysts: These are fluid-filled lumps that often develop near joints. MRI can help identify and characterize these cysts.
Carpal tunnel syndrome: This condition is caused by compression of the median nerve in the wrist. The MRI may show signs of compression or inflammation in this area.
With the 1.5 Tesla capacity of the Siemens Aera, detailed and clear images of the wrist are obtained, facilitating an accurate diagnosis and guiding the appropriate treatment.
5. Advantages for the patient The Aera's open design provides a more comfortable experience during the study, especially useful for patients with pain or restricted movement in the wrist. In addition, its technology reduces noise, providing a quieter procedure.
