Computed tomography (CT) of the abdomen and abdomen-pelvic area is an imaging technique that uses X-rays and computer processing to produce cross-sectional images of the abdominal and pelvic area. These studies allow a clear view of the internal organs, blood vessels and bones of this region, providing physicians with an invaluable tool for diagnosing a wide range of diseases.
Difference between Abdominal CT and Abdominopelvic CT
Abdominal CT : This study focuses on the abdominal region, observing mainly the liver, pancreas, kidneys, spleen and surrounding structures.
Abdominopelvic CT : This includes both the abdominal and pelvic areas, allowing for the evaluation of structures such as the bladder, uterus, prostate and other pelvic organs in addition to the abdominal organs. This study is useful when a more extensive evaluation is needed or in cases where pathologies may affect both regions.
