Structural Ultrasound
Structural Ultrasound
Structural ultrasound is an advanced ultrasonography modality designed to obtain detailed images of the internal structures of the body, particularly to examine a fetus for physical and functional abnormalities.
What is Ultrasound?
Ultrasound uses sound waves to produce images of the inside of the body. In the context of structural ultrasound, this method provides a detailed view of internal structures and organs, allowing for precise evaluation.
Applications of Structural Ultrasound
This study is essential for:
- Detection of fetal anomalies: Identification of possible defects or malformations in the developing fetus.
- Evaluation of internal organs: Detailed study of organs such as the heart, kidneys and brain.
- Monitoring growth and development: Monitoring the progress and well-being of the fetus.
- Detection of placental problems: Identification of problems with the position or function of the placenta.
- Amniotic fluid evaluation: Check the quantity and quality of the fluid surrounding the fetus.
Benefits of Structural Ultrasound
- Non-invasive: No incisions or surgical procedures are required.
- No radiation: Unlike other imaging methods, ultrasound does not use ionizing radiation.
- High accuracy: Provides clear and detailed images of internal structures.
- Accessible and economical: Compared with other imaging techniques.
Conclusion
Structural ultrasound is a fundamental tool in the evaluation and diagnosis of various internal conditions and anomalies, especially in the obstetric context. It provides invaluable information to ensure the health and well-being of both the fetus and the mother.
